G. (30, M), ii) Catherine (21, F), iii) Rebecca (20, F), iv) Eliza (14, F); also in the household was James G. Gibbs (age 26, born South Carolina). Of note, on the same census enumeration sheet, immediately preceding the listing for Caroline's family, was that of O. B. Mayer, who would soon become Caroline's husband.

Carolina N. Mayer (age 26, born South Carolina) was living in Newberry District, Newberry County, South Carolina in the household of her husband, \O. B. Mayer, Sr. (age 42, born South Carolina), with their Mayer children, all born in South Carolina (age, sex): i) Mary M. (8, F), ii) O. B., Jr. (7, M), iii) Catherine (4, F), iv) Alice A. (2, F). O.B. Benedict, Sr.'s occupation was a physician. He owned real estate valued at $3,000 and personal estate valued at $15,000, the latter of which reflects the ascribed value of the 15 enslaved people that he held, including 8 females (age range: 4 - 50) and 7 males (age range: 1 - 60).[7]
Caroline (DeWalt) Mayer died on 9 Nov 1861, and she was buried in Rosemont Cemetery, Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina.[1]
