Obituary - MRS. ELIZABETH COUSINS.[1]

The hand of death has claimed yet another member of that intrepid band of the pioneers of Western Australia in the person of the late Mrs Elizabeth Cousins of Bejoording.
The deceased lady passed to her eternal rest on the 22nd June at the home of her son George, " Orleans Farm," Bejoording, in her 92nd year.
Born in the Old Country in 1834, Mrs Cousins accompanied her husband, the late John Cousins, who predeceased her some 12 years or so. The young couple came out to the Swan River Settlement in the sailing ship " Sabrina " in 1853 the duration of the voyage being practically six months.
The young couple entered the service of the late Mr Isaac Doust, of "Yeranda," Culham, and among their many hardships and trials of those early days, the loss of their eldest child, who was lost in the bush never to be seen again, was a bereavement of particular poignancy.
The late Mr and Mrs J. Cousins were both very highly esteemed not only for their indomitable courage and industry but also for their noted hospitality. A goodly family, we understand 4 boys and 4 girls, were bom to them and those of them now living, 3 sons and 3 daughters, are numbered amongst our leading agriculturists and most highly regarded citizens. Numerous grandchildren also remain to mourn their loss and to carry on the good work and traditions of which their grandparents were such capable exponents.
Their first piece ot land was a 10 acre grant at Bejoording and from that small beginning has grown the splendid farming areas now occupied by their sons, Messrs William and George Cousins, on the Bolgart road.
The deceased lady was interred at the Culham Cemetery on Tuesday, 23rd June, the Rev. J. Mason, who performed the last sacred rites of the Anglican church, delivering an eloquent testimony to her good life and qualities.
The pallbearers were Messrs. E. R. Mackintosh, W. P. Dempster, E. Ludeman and P. Hamersley. Floral tributes were sent by the following: Mr and Mrs T. Waters ; Mr and Mrs J. T. Donegan and family ; T. Kingston ; Mr, and Mrs. R, L. Ferguson ; Mr and Mrs Hamersley; Herb and Ruth Cousins; Reuben and Monty ; Emily and Naomi; Alex and Albert; George, Emma and family; Mr and Mrs J. Ralph and family ; Mr and Mrs. W. C. Syred and family ; Mona and Willie (Ashley); Mrs Kilpin and boys; Mr. and Mrs T. J. Markey and family ; "Mrs Syred, George and Mercy; A. H. Hutson, Mrs Martin, and Isaac; Hannah aud Willie. The funeral arrangements were ably directed by Mr J. W, Purslowe, of Northam.
