Biography

Thomas was born about 1497 Kingston, probably at Denne Hill. He is the eldest son of Thomas Denne and Alice (Eshehurst) Denne. He married Alice Mett in about 1538 possibly in Stourmouth, where Alice was born. He was buried in Kingston, Kent, on the 20th of July 1563.[1]

Research Notes

It is said he was in his 66th year of age when he died in 1563 [2], which would mean he was born in about 1497.

please could someone pre-1500 certified change his estimated year of birth to 1497 for the reasons already given in research notes and various comments - thanks

Correct Robin. The idea of trying to work around the pre-1500 requirements hadn't entered my head - they are there for good reason. I am just in the process of adjusting the date estimates to be more realistic, based on the will information I have been given or from transcriptions I have recently made myself. If you have any information or sources to add that would help, please do - sharing information can help enormously to reach more accurate dates and conclusions, If not please be patient, these are profiles of work in progress. As you are no doubt aware, the Kent Visitation sources are often silent on dates and only wills give details about more of the children (particularly the daughters). Also, many profiles have been entered via Gedcom files with disregard for sources and dates - I am trying to repair, merge, mend orphans & expand were possible - also part of the England PPP project Denne families (check with Jo). In the present case Thomas Denne had initially been estimated to have been born much later (fitting with his mother's birth 1507).I have only recently been able to reach this conclusion and to source it all. I have now reached the pre-1500 wall and need assistance to adjust not only his profile but ofc both those of his parents which have also been entered incorrectly. If you would like to take over as profile manager you are welcome to do so or if you would like to offer/use your pre-1500 skills please do. I am stuck and I need help. So ...

If his mother was born in 1507, he had to be born much later than before 1500. Or the mother is incorrect. Please do not try to get around the Pre-1500 requirements as it appears to be creating a lot of errors.

Robin - please don't make accusations without any evidence: suspicion is really not enough. It is often difficult with many early 16thC English profiles to predict if they will end up earlier than 1500 or not - your experience should confirm that . That said, even so if the profile is likely to be around 1500, is is still also useful to Wikitree with few pre-1500 certified contributors with enough time to write/amend profiles, that non pre-1500 certified, serious genealogists provide sourced data and if necessary (as later might turn out) the profle can be moved before the 1500 cut--off with a pre-1500 PM taking the profile over with the minimum of fuss and work. However, it is easier to troll Wikitree to find errors than it is to manage profiles & sadly seems to happen more and more. I hope we can encourage & support more Wikitreers to become pre-1500 certified rather than discourage them & at the same time suppress trolling as it is counter-productive. I do not produce profiles which I already know will end up pre-1500. In such cases: I draft the biography, make notes & link sources, the pass to someone who is pre-1500 certified.
