OBIT -- Harry Spear

H. C. SPEAR DIES AT HOSPITAL H. Clifford (Cooney) Spear, prominent 72 - year - old Bedford businessman and owner - operator of the J. L. Spear Lumber Co., North J street, died suddenly at 3:20 yesterday afternoon at Dunn Memorial hospital. According to reports, Mr. Spear had entered just a few minutes earlier suffering a heart attack.
Born May 5, 1889 in Jackson County, Mr. Spear had operated his lumber firm for upwards of a half - century. He was also active in the Elks Lodge, FOP and was a former member of the Bedford School Board, having served two terms. Spear was also on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Hardwood Lumber Association and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here.
Last Rites Set Final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Dr. S. B. Hopper and Dr. J. L. Prentice officiating. Burial will take place in the Cresthaven Memorial Park under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.
His parents John L. and Della Densford Spear preceded him in death. Survivors include the widow, Beryl Foster Spear, whom he married October 18, 1916; two daughters, Miss Josepine Spear of Bloomington and Mrs. Kenneth Eitel of Greencastle; two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lewis Merrell of Bedford. Friends may call at the Day & Carter Mortuary after noon Thursday.

HARRY CLIFFORD SPEAR is buried in Cresthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Lawrence County, Indiana.
