Biography

This profile is part of the Denton Name Study.

Solomon Denton [Jr.], b. say 1724[1] in Jamaica, Queens, New York. [2] (Combes, p. 67, suggests 1718), and moved with his mother to Greenwich, Conn.; he m. twice, to cousins: (1) Susanna (also called Lydia) Husted, dau. of Moses and Susanna (Mead) Husted, by whom he had seven children; and (2) Judith Husted, dau. of David and Johanna (Brundage) Husted, by whom he had eight children [3]

Sometime before the 1790 Federal Census he moved to Pawling, Dutchess Co., N.Y., [4]where he drew his will in 1813 and died 3 August 1818 (Dutchess County Wills E:415), leaving many descendants. Will Mentions Wife Judith, children Thomas, Noah, and Susannah. Aaron Denton witness, Thomas Denton executor. Will written 14 Jan 1813, Solomon Made his Mark. Court documents he was a very old man, 80 or 90 years old. He probably died in Pawling, and the sources that quote him as being in Greenwich appear to be incorrect, as he would not have been mentioned in Dutchess County wills as being of Pawling when he was living in Greenwich. [5]
