Obituary Transcript: Mrs. Doris Desmarais Griffin, 24, wife of Paul Griffin of 486 Fairmount street, Woonsocket, died yesterday [6 July 1940] in Rhode Island Hospital of a fractured neck which she suffered while diving at Luarel Pond, East Warren last Sunday [30 June 1940]. Her funeral will be on Tuesday [9 July 1940] morning at the Fournter and Fournier funeral home, 90 Cumberland street, Woonsocket. A solemn high mass of requiem will be sung at 9 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church and burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery. Mrs. Griffin accompanied by her husband and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Desmarais of 51 Arnold street, Woonsocket, was visiting friends at Laurel Pond when the accident occurred. She dived from a height of about nine feet according to witnesses and struck her head on the bottom. She was treated at the scene by Dr. Robert Drew of Warren and then removed to Rhode Island Hospital in the Bristol town ambulance. Born in Woonsocket, Nov. 10, 1915, she was educated in the public schools of that city. She was married April 27, 1935, in Our Lady of Victories Church. Besides her husband and parents she leaves a brother, Theodore Desmarais, Jr., and a sister, Lillian Desmarais, both of Woonsocket.[1]
