Simeon was born in 1800, the son of Allen and Ruth (Bennett) Devol, in Washington County, Ohio, where he was raised and spent much of his life.
Simeon married Rubia "Ruby" Sprague, the daughter of William and Experience (Buck) Sprague, on January 1, 1822, in Coal Run, Washington County. Together they would have a large family of children as follows:

Ruby died in 1864. Simeon then, in 1869, married Rebecca (Mason) Roach whose first husband, Milton S. Roach, had also died in 1864. Rebecca was the daughter of William I. and Sarah (Shakley) Mason. Simeon had no children by Rebecca
Simeon was a very successful merchant who plied his wares down the Ohio River to the Mississippi and on to New Orleans.
Simeon died in 1876 at 76 years of age, while Rebecca lived on until 1880. Simeon's body is buried with Ruby's in the Devol Cemetery in Coal Run, Washington County, Ohio, along with many Devol relatives.
