Benjamin Devol was born 5 OCT 1752 Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island[1]Benjamin married Christiana Hicks before 8 NOV 1797. He died before 9 NOV 1829.

In a 10 MAR 1790 land deal in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island Benjamin clearly stated that he was of Tiverton, however, it should be noted that the land he sold to Benjamin Brownell was located in Portsmouth, R.I."Know all Men by these presents that I Benjamin Devol of Tiverton in the County of Newport and State of Rhode Island, Blacksmith for and in consideration of the sum of eighty Spanish Milled Dollars to me in hand paid before the delivery her of by Benjamin Brownell of Portsmouth and County aforesaid".

Benjamin was known to have worked as a blacksmith.

Benjamin Devol later sold land lying and being in Portsmouth, being one acre and one and one quarter and half a quarter of acre to Benjamin Brownell of Portsmouth. The land was bounded on the west by land belonging to George Hall, southerly partly on the Road and partly southerly and westerly on land of the said Benjamin Devol, northerly and easterly on land belonging to the aforementioned Benjamin Brownell. Data: Text: Know all Men by these presents that I Benjamin Devol of Tiverton in the County of Newport and State of Rhode Island, Blacksmith for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty Spanish Milled Dollars to me in hand paid before delivery hence of Benjamin Brownell of Portsmouth and County foresaid.

This land deed was between Benjamin Devol and his wife Christiana Devol and Benjamin Brownell. Her name is written as Christian in the main part of the deed, but it is clearly written as Christiana at the bottom where the marks of her and Benjamin are. In addition, there is a note by Thomas Hicks, Justice of Peace, that notes that she and Benjamin personally appeared , in which her name is also written as Christiana. Data: Text: And Christian Devol, wife of said Benjamin doth by these presents give yield up and surrender all their right of Dower and power of in or unto the said hereby granted premises unto the said Benjamin Brownell his heirs and Assigns forever.

Benjamin Devol and his wife Christiana Devol sold land in Portsmouth to Benjamin Brownell. The cost was twenty dollars and the land was twenty rods, more or less. It was bounded on the north and east by land of Benjamin Brownell, and on the south by a highway, and on the west by land of George Hall. On the same day, Benjamin bought twenty rods of land, also in Portsmouth, and also for twenty dollars, from George Brownell. That deed was Volume 8, page 55

On 8 November 1797, Benjamin Devol bought twenty rods of land in the Town of Portsmouth, for twenty dollars from George Brownell and his wife, Sarah. This land was bounded on the north and west and south by land of William Borden, and on the east by a highway or sea or salt water. On the same day, Bejamin & Christiana Devol sold twenty rods of land, also in Portsmouth and also for twenty dollars, to Benjamin Brownell.
