Biography

Colleen was born in Durban, South Africa in 1958. She was the daughter of John Collin Diamond (Jack) and his wife June.

Colleen married Joseph (Joe) O'Carroll in 1983. It was a second marriage for them both and she helped raise Joe's children from his first marriage.

Colleen was the founder and director of the Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary, located not far from Plettenberg Bay in South Africa. [1]. She was also an accomplished businesswoman, and in 2014 was recognised for her excellence in business management. She was the owner and managing director of Hands Down Distribution Pty Ltd, a wholesaler supplier of hair and nail products; [2] which also provided beauty training via their Academy of Cosmetology [3]. Colleen also owned and managed Shen Sports Pty Ltd, a supplier of martial arts equipment in Claremont, Cape, South Africa. [4] and Damaansa Holdings Pty Ltd, a supplier of alternative medicines. She was a director of Tribal Warriors Pty Ltd, and Teen Trojan Warriors NPO and was the Chairman and CEO of Doctors Across Borders, t/as Doctors Beyond Medicine, a non profit organisation in South Africa. Colleen was passionate about alternative therapies and was nominated for awards for business management.

She travelled extensively with her husband Joe. She also practised Tai Chi and enjoyed a rich spiritual life. In her final years, she had converted to Islam.

Colleen passed away from colon cancer on 26 February 2019, aged 60. The Janazah (Islamic funeral prayer) took place at Schaapkraal, Philippi, Cape Town at 4:30 PM on the day she passed. She was interred at the Spaanschemat River Muslim cemetery in Constantia, Cape Town. A memorial was held in the form of an Irish wake, as per her wishes, at the Vineyard Hotel in Claremont, Cape Town on 23rd March at 6 PM.
