Henry Dickens was first found in what was Bute County, North Carolina around 1766 and later on at Haw Tree Creek which had become part of Warren County, North Carolina. He then migrated to Caswell County, North Carolina before 1789. Henry could have been married twice. It was recorded that he married Lydia Hewes about 1791 in Caswell, North Carolina. He had several children prior to his marriage to Lydia. He migrated to Smith County, Tennessee between 1805-1808 and settled on the Caney Fork where he lived until his death.

State of Tennessee, Smith County. Know all men that I Henry Dickens being in my perfect mind & memory calling into mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men once to die, doe make and ordain this to be my last will and testament. I do first of all - I do recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that give it~ and my body to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors. 2ndy; I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife, one bay mare called Medly and all her increase forever forward clear of all encumbrances. 3dy; I give and bequeath unto Loty Pendarvis a cow and calf. 4dy; and all the balance of my property to be sold at public sale at the discretion of my executors to the highest bidder. 5dy; I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Darnal, William Dickens, Rebecca Bush, Mary Bush, Martha Whitamon, John Dickens, Jeremiah Dickens, Joseph Dickens, Loty Pendarvis, Sarah Herring, all one shilling a piece good current money to be raised and out of my estate, and after all my good debts being paide the balance I give to be equally divided between my well beloved wife and my son Jesse Dickens. In testimony whereas I the said Henry Dickens have here unto set my hand and fixed my seal. August 11th day 1828

State of Tennessee, Smith County, November term 1828. Then the last will and testament of Henry Dickens de; was produced and duly proven in open court by the oaths of Joseph Dickens and James Pendarvis Witnesses thereto, and on motion ordered to be recorded.
