Biography

"6. Peter DICKS Jr. (Peter, James) was born on 1 Feb 1696 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He died in 1760 in Chester County. Nathan Dicks, son of Peter[19]. Peter married Sarah HAYES, daughter of Joseph HAYES, in 1716 in Chester County. Sarah was born about 1692. She died before 1750 in Chester County, Pennsylvania “Sarah of Nether Providence, Chester, Pennsylvania, was the widow of Thomas Powell, Jr.” Peter settled[20] in Providence, Chester County, Pennsylvania and later in life became interested in iron works. All the information on the Dicks family is very confusing because the children mostly had the same names from generation to generation. He married 2nd Sarah, widow of William Swaffer in 1750. Peter was an esteemed minister among Friends[21]. The order of birth for the children is unknown. Peter received a grant of 300 acres in 1701 in Birmingham for 50 pounds 1 shilling rent per year, and in 1702 a grant of 254 acres for 45 pounds rent[22]. (SEE HAYES FAMILY)

23 M v. Peter DICKS III was born on 23 Oct 1722 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Peter probably had the following children: Jane b.4 Nov 1751, who married John Peirce, 17 Nov 1786; Roger b.30 Jul 1753, who married Rebecca Maris, 25 May 1797, d.29 Dec 1808.
