Margaret Dickson was the seventh of eleven children born to Margaret Dickson and her husband, Andrew.
Margaret's father, Andrew, was a Game Keeper on a large estate near Rosslyn, Midlothian, Scotland.
At the age of about eighteen years, Margaret emigrated, and arrived in Melbourne, Australia. There she met and married a Canadian mariner named George Russell. They raised a large family in the suburb of Footscray.
She lived for another 25 years after her husband died, and ended her days living with the family of her daughter Minnie, and Minnie's husband, Joseph Orton [1]
