Louis was born 25 Dec 1830 in Friedrichshafen, Bodenseekreis, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.[1]

Louis married Friederika Strengson on 17 Nov 1853 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States.[2]

Louis, age 22, entered the Union Army in Company A, 2nd Regiment, Michigan Infantry at the regiment's organization, as Captain on 18 Apr 1861, in Detroit, for 3 years. Commissioned 25 Apr 1861. Mustered 25 May 1861. Commissioned Major 6 Mar 1862. Commissioned Lieutenant Colonel 26 Jul 1862. Resigned and honorably discharged 30 Jul 1863. Died Feb 1903 in Pasadena, California.[3][4] The 2nd Michigan Infantry was organized at Fort Wayne in Detroit, Michigan. During his time in service, the Regiment was engaged in the First and Second battles of Bull Run, the Peninsular Campaign, the battle of Fredericksburg and the Siege of Vicksburg.[5]

Louis married Amelia A. Johneese Bellair on 20 Jul 1887 in Detroit, Michigan, United States. Amelia was born in Michigan in about 1841.[6]

Louis had resided here about sixteen years. He was known for his etchings on orange wood which have achieved quite a reputation. He was building a new studio in South Pasadena.[7]

Louis married Mrs. Mattie M Smith on 19 Dec 1895 in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Louis was 65 and Mattie 60.[8][9]

He passed away 27 Feb 1903 in Pasadena, Los Angeles, California, United States[10] and is buried in Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Altadena, California.[7][1]

Louis is survived by his wife Mattie, 3 sons and a daughter.[7]
