Hugh was born about 1755. He is the son of Alexander Dobbins and Jean Templeton.[1]
Hugh's wife may have been Agnes Stutt. There is a marriage record for a Hugh Dobbins who married a Agnes Stutt on 23 October 1795 in Rowan County, North Carolina.
Hugh shows up in the Rowan County, NC, 1800 census in the 16-25 age bracket, giving a birth range of 1775-1784. After the death of his father, Hugh moved to Williamson County, TN. He is listed in the Williamson County, TN, Tax List for 1805. Based on other land and tax records he appears to have been in Williamson County as early as 1802. He appears in the Williamson County 1820 census, being over 45 years of age.
Between 1820 and 1830 he moved to Henry County, TN, and appears in the census record for that county in the 50-59 age bracket. This gives a birth range of 1770 to 1780.
Since he and his wife do not show in the 1840 census it is assumed they died prior to 1840. The location of their burial is not known.
