Biography

Richard was born in 1856.^[1] He married Rebeeca McCallum in 1881 ^[2] He passed away in 1939 age 83 ^[3]

MR RICHARD DOBSON The death has occurred of Mr Richard Dobson, of Merivale, Christchurch, at the age of 83 years. Mr Dobson was born in County Wicklow, Ireland, and came to New Zealand with other members of his family in 1871. For several years he farmed in the Sefton district and afterwards took land at Broomfield, Amberley, which he farmed until 1918 when he moved to the Rangiora district. Not long after he retired from farming and came to live in Christchurch. Mr Dobson married in 1881 Miss Rebecca McCallum, of Stirling, Scotland, who died seven years ago. At the Balcairn cemetery, where the funeral took place, a large gathering showed the esteem In which Mr Dobson was held in North Canterbury. ^[4]
