Ozro John Dodds was born on 22 Mar 1840 in Ohio.[1] He was the son of William B. Dodds and Eliza (unknown) Dodds. At the time of the 1860 Census, his family was living in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. His father worked as a safe maker.[2]

At the outbreak of the Civil War he was attending Miami University in Oxford, Butler County, Ohio. He organized a company known as Captain Dodd's university company. He joined the 20th Ohio Infantry Regiment (3 months) on 18 Apr 1861. He was appointed as Captain of Company B.[3][4]

He joined the 81st Ohio Infantry Regiment on 01 Sep 1861. He was assigned as Captain of Company F. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st Regiment Alabama Cavalry on 17 Oct 1863. He resigned on 02 May 1864.[3][5]

After the war he completed his degree with Miami University. He studied law at Cincinnati Law School. He then worked as a lawyer in Cincinnati.[3]

He married Martha H. DeSilver on 24 Feb 1869 in Kings County, New York.[6] At the time of the 1870 Census, they were living in Cincinnati, where he worked as a lawyer.[7] His wife passed away on 12 Aug 1870. She was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.[8]

He served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1870-1871. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Democrat to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Aaron F. Perry. He served in Congress from 08 Oct 1872 to 04 Mar 1873. He did not run for re-election.[3]

He married Mary Lamison on 24 Dec 1873 in Allen County, Ohio.[9]

At the time of the 1880 Census, he was living in his father's household in Cincinnati.[10] His wife, Mary, was living in her own father's household in Lima, Allen County, Ohio.[11]

He passed away on 18 Apr 1882. He was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.[1]
