Biography

Asa Dodson was born 28th May 1780 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Asa was the son of David Dodson Sr and Elizabeth Dodson.[1]

Asa married Nancy Wolverton on the 8th of September 1803 in Pulaski County, Kentucky.[2]

Asa appears in the 1820 Federal census in Maury County, Tennessee. Asa's household appears as follows: 3 males under 10; 1 male age 16 thru 18; 1 male age 16 thru 25; 1 male age 26 thru 44; 1 female age under 10; 1 female age 10 thru 15; and 1 female age 26 thru 44.[3]

Asa purchased for $40 dollars, on the 18th February 1830 160 acres of land Joel Daniel received under Kentucky Land Grant Patent #1616. The land description was NE Section 33 of Township 3 Range 1 West in the Jackson Purchase, recorded in Grant Book 3, page 46.[4]

Asa and Caleb Noel purchased for $40 dollars, on the 16th August 1830, 160 acres of land Wiley Mecham received under Kentucky Land Grant Patent #1617. The land description was NW Section 33 of Township 3 Range 1 West in the Jackson Purchase, recorded in Grant Book 3, page 47.[5]

Asa appears in the 1840 Federal census in Graves County, Kentucky. Asa's household appears as follows: 1 male age 20 thru 29; 1 male age 60 thru 69; 1 female age under 5; 2 females age 5 thru 9; 1 female age 15 thru 19; 1 female age 30 thru 39; 1 male slave age under 10; 1 female slave age under 10; and 1 female slave age 10 thru 23.[6]

Asa appears in the 1850 Federal census in Graves County, Kentucky. Asa's household appears as follows: A. Dodson, age 70 born in Virginia, and Nancy Dodson, age 68 born in Virginia.[7]

Asa married his second wife, the widow Susan Cauthern on the 15th of March 1855, in Graves County, Kentucky.[8]

Asa died on the 20th of August 1855 in Graves County, Kentucky.[9]

Asa was buried in the Dodson Cemetery in Graves County, Kentucky.[10]

Dodson-3357 and Dodson-1531 appear to represent the same person because: Both men are born in Virginia in the same time period, both have the same date and place of death and both are married to the same woman.
