Robert Harry Doesburg was born on 26 April 1918 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, United States, son of Harry Herbert Doesburg (1896–1974) and Henrietta M Myers (1895–1960).

In the 1930 census Robert (age 11) was the stepson of Walter E Knerr in Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga, Ohio, United States.^[1]

Robert (21) married Margaret L Abraham (21) (born on January 19, 1918 in Cleveland; daughter of Frederick Richard Abraham and Fanny Elizabeth Mary (Field) Abraham) on September 16, 1939 in Cuyahoga. ^[2]
