Mary was born in Raymond Terrace and grew up Lambton. In June 1880 she was certified as a Pupil Teacher at the Roman Catholic school, Lambton.[1] After several promotions at Lambton[2][3], she was appointed Assistant teacher at Charlestown Public School in 1888.[4] She was appointed to Cook’s Hill Public School (1890) [5] and, after further promotion,[6] moved to Sydney where she taught at Petersham Girls’ School, Darlinghurst Girls’ School (1906-14)[7] and Randwick Girls’ School.[8] She retired as Assistant Teacher of Randwick Public School in 1925 after a 45-year career. [9]
In Sydney Mary lived with her mother and siblings in Wemyss Street Surry Hills in at least 1903-1908 and with her siblings in Allison Street Randwick. [10]
In 1911 Mary purchased a property in Arthur Street Randwick where she lived until her death in 1951. [11] The Arthur Street house was also, at various times, the home of many of her siblings and her widowed sister-in-law Julia.[12][13]
Mary was buried in Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park. [14]
