Biography

There is conflicting data as to what her actual name was, her first two children's baptisms have her listed as Marie Jeanne, subsequent records list her as Marie Angélique, one as Marie only, one as Marie Thérèse. Date of birth listed is for Marie Dolbec, born 9 Oct 1739, bapt 11th in St-Augustin[1]. Godfather Philippe Girard godmother Marie Le Tarte. This corresponds to age of 48 on funeral record in 1787.

Her marriage could not be found, her first child is born and baptized 30 Jan 1764, and the text of baptism indicates the daughter was illegitimate and legitimized upon her parents' marriage:

l'an mil cent cent soixante et quatre le trente janvier a été baptisée Marie Françoise née de Jean Bader et de Marie Jeanne Dolbec lequel enfant a été reconnu être le sien après mariage fait de.(vant) témoins Jean Bapt. Benoit et Joseph Landry, le parrain a été Jean Bapt. Meunier, le reste de l'acte manque[2]

Note: The above seems to have been transcribed by the parish priest from another record, it ends stating the balance of the text is missing.

She dies and is buried on 26 June 1787 in Verchères, aged 48 per funeral record. Her husband got listed as Jean Baptiste Madere rather than Bader[4]

Research notes

Nosorigines names her parents as Jean-François Dalpé and Marie Ann Jeanne Tapin, this according to PRDH data. There is a Marie Jeanne Dalpé born in 1736 to François Dalpé and Catherine Morisseau. Dalpé and Dolbec get confused together in records, but the actual name recorded was Dolbec, with Dolbec having disappeared and Dalpé apparently having replaced it. Nos Origines
