Biography

Mary Williams was born about 1656,

She married 1.) Thomas Jessup on 23 Nov. 1683 in Southampton, Long Island and 2.) John Cole or Dole, and supposedly moved to Gloucester Co., NJ. (Continued in Children of Sarah Washburn and Robert Williams.)

From Sandra Ferguson:

Sarah Dole's brother, John Dole, married Mary Williams d/o Robert and Sarah Washburn Williams of LI and removed to Newton Twp in late 1690. Thier son Joseph Dole married Hanna Somers, d/o John Somers and Hannah Hodgkins Somers, Somers Point NJ and Somerton PA.[1]

John arrived in the Delaware River aboard the Friendship in 1682. He is recognized by the Welcome Society as an Ancestor Approved for Membership.

John was mentioned in the will of his brother-in-law Andrew Griscom in 1694. [2]

According to Clement, John Dole and his siblings Sarah and Jacob immigrated from Wales. In a deed dated 6 April 1699, he purchased land " Fronting on the Delaware River, Gloucester County" from his brother-in-law John Kaighn (second husband of sister Sarah).[3] "He was a shoemaker, and came from Long Island, N.Y., where he had married Mary Jessup of Jericho, in 1688. He died in 1715, and by his will gave this land to his two sons John and Joseph.[4]
