James Albert Donaldson was born in October 1886. He was the son of James Donaldson and his wife Catherine (nee McClure).
In World War I Private James Albert Donaldson enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on the 3rd of April 1916. His Next of Kin is listed as his father, James Donaldson of 16 Rawson Street, Mosman, New South Wales. He served with the 35th Battalion, 6th Reinforcements and this unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A72 Beltana on 25 November 1916. In Europe Corporal James Albert Donaldson saw service on the Western Front with the 35th Battalion and returned to Australia 21 May 1919. later receiving the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.James Albert Donaldson married Ella Blanche Sullings of Newcastle and he passed away after 1920. The couple's only son James became an architect.
