Accident

Loses Life in Effort To Save School Girl, 14

Duquoin, Oct. 4 - (AP) - Emery Dottery, 58, a harness maker, was killed by an automobile yesterday while attempting to save Ethel Marie Grant, 14-year-old school girl, from being hit by a train.

The girl, returning from school, walked into the path of the train. Dottery stopped his automobile to rush to the girt's aid and was struck by a machine driven by Edward Senior of Ashley.

Dottery and the girl, who lived at St. John, one mile north of here, were instantly killed.[4]


Killed As He Seeks To Aid Train Victim

Duquoin, Ill., Oct. 3. - (AP) - As a passenger traln killed Ethel Marie Grant, 14-year-old schoolgirl, Emery Dottery, 58-year-old harness maker was instantly killed by an automobile when he stepped from his machine to try and save the girl from the traln, near here today.

The girl was returning from school and walked into the path of the train. Dottery who lives nearby was driving into his yard. Seeing the girl in danger he stopped his machine and stepped out on the pavement to rescue her. An automobile driven by Edward Senior of Ashley struck Dottery, killing him instantly. The girl and Dottery lived at St. John, a mile north of here.[5]
