James Douglas, 1st Lord Mordington, was born in 1591 in Mordington, Berwickshire, Scotland. He was the second son of William Douglas and Elizabeth Oliphant.[1][2]

He married firstly, Anne Oliphant in July 1642 in Scotland, only child of Laurence, Fifth Lord Oliphant[3] They had issue:

  1. William, 2nd Lord Mordington, m. Elizabeth Sempill, daughter of Hugh, Lord Sempill
  2. James, b. abt. 1638
  3. Anne, m. Robert, seventh Lord Sempill

He married secondly, Elizabeth Hay, daughter of Francis, Earl of Errol, widow of Hugh, Lord Sempill. [4]

James died on February 11, 1656, in his hometown at the age of 65.
