Raymond Avery Doust, known as Ray, was born in 1903, in Taree, New South Wales, Australia, the firstborn and only son of Sydney Doust and Evangeline Avery.[1]A sister Mary, known as Mollie, was later to complete the family.
He married Alice Irene Eyers on the 24th May 1930, in the Taree Methodist Church, Taree, New South Wales.[2]They were to have five children; four sons and one daughter.
The wedding was reported in The Northern Champion on the 28th May.
DOUST—EYRES
At noon on Saturday in the Taree Methodist Church, the Rev. V. T. Smith united in the holy bonds of matrimony two popular young people in the person of Mr. Ray Doust, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Doust, of Purfleet, and Miss Alice Irene Eyres, who came from England about five years ago and has resided in Taree for the last four years.
The bridesmaid was Miss Molly Doust, sister of the bridegroom, and Mr John Murray was best man.
The bride, who wore her travelling dress, was given away by Mr. W. Strickland.
The reception, which was given by Mr and Mrs. W. Strickland, was held at the Butterfly, the tables being neatly decorated.
The Rev. V T. Smith presided and the customary toasts were honoured.
Mr. and Mrs. Doust later left for a motor tour of the North Coast.
On Wednesday last the friends of Mr. Doust assembled at the home of Mr. John Murray, senior. Mr. A. W. B. Maiden was chairman and referred in eulogistic terms to the good quality of the guest and wished him every happiness in his married life.
These good wishes were endorsed by Messrs. John Murray, senior, Geo., Roy and Gordon Saxby, and A. Chapman. The chairman then presented the guest with a set of carvers and half a dozen soup spoons.[3]
Raymond Avery Doust passed away on the 23rd May 1990, in Taree, New South Wales, Australia, aged 87 years,[4]and was interred in the Methodist section, Dawson River Cemetery, Cundletown, New South Wales, and lies at rest alongside his wife, and where others of his extended family also lie.[5]
