Starling Graves Driggs was born in Alleghany County, Pennsylvania, 12 February 1821. He was the son of Urial and Hannah Ford Driggs. His father was of Dutch ancestry, and his Grandfather, Daniel Driggs Jr. was a sergeant in the Revolutionary War, and was with Washington at Valley Forge. His father, Urial Driggs was a farmer, and did a lot of moving in the Westward Movement to new frontiers. Starling and his brothers, Lorenzo and Samuel , as growing boys gave good help in growing food, caring for the animals, and clearing the woodlands to add more acres to their holdings. His brother Shadrack went to work for a skilled wagon maker, and learned that trade which was to come in handy in later years when the Saints were in urgent need of wagons to escape the mob violence. Starling Graves Driggs and Sarah Rogers were married and sealed by President Brigham Young, 29 May,1855, just prior to their leaving on a mission to San Bernadino. She did not receive her endowments until 1862. He and Sarah had three children: Starling Jr., Sarah Olivia, and Hannah Amanda. Starling passed away from injuries incurred by operating a thrasher at the age of 47 on 3 Dec 1860 in Parawn Utah.
Several sources list his given name as "Sterling," but the inscription on his gravestone shows his name as "Starling," as does the article in the Iron County Record.
Starling was part of the 2nd Company of Ten led by Ezra Taft Benson in 1847.
