Biography
The son of Nancy Emaline Duffie, Lucien Duffie was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina in 1848; the name of his father is not known; he may have been born out of wedlock. His siblings included:

William Yancey Duffie (1849-1905)
In 1850, he lived with his mother and his siblings in Edgefield, South Carolina.[1] His mother remarried, marrying Hugh Patrick Duffie (1836-1910), the son of John Augustus Duffie and Sarah Gentry, marrying around 1853. In 1860, Lucien lived with his family in Saluda Regiment, South Carolina, in Edgefield County.[2] His half-siblings included:

Lucien Duffie enlisted when the American Civil War broke out, enlisting in the 6th Regiment of the South Carolina Infantry, Confederate States Army. He served in Units 1 and 2 of Company F and in Company I.[3]
After the war, Lucien returned to South Carolina, residing with his family in Edgefield.[4] Lucien Duffie married Amanda (Whittle) Duffie, the daughter of Willis Whittle and Nancy A. Bartley, marrying around 1871[citation needed] and having eight known children together:

They made their home in Huiet Township, South Carolina, in Edgefield County, farming there.[5] By 1900, that port of Edgefield County had become part of Saluda County.[6] Lucien Duffie's wife passed away in 1904 and Lucien remarried in 1907, marrying Melissa McCarty (1881-1918), the daughter of James Madison McCarty and Laura Tabitha Thrailkill. They had two children together:

Martha Thelma Duffie (1908-1995)
Lucien's second wife passed away in 1918; in 1920, Lucien lived with his two youngest daughters at his farm in Saluda County.[7] By 1930, Lucien and his daughter, Dorothy, lived with Lucien's son, Zed, residing in Huiet Township.[8]
Lucien Duffie passed away in Saluda County, South Carolina[9] at the age of 86 and is buried at Butler United Methodist Church cemetery in Saluda, South Carolina.[10]
