James Duncan is one of twins.
Born with his twin brother Jack on August 20, 1906 in Aberdeen, Scotland,[to John Duncan & Elizabeth Dey Daniel] he moved to Canada before he was a year old, was educated in King George High School, Vancouver and received his B.A. at U.B.C.[1] He studied in Southern Baptist Theological College after receiving his call to Christian service and then to McMaster University in Toronto where he obtained his B.Th.

After a two year period at New College in Edinburgh, Scotland he returned to marry his beloved [Ester Odella Denman] of Vancouver [at Toronto, Ontario on July 27, 1933.[2][3]

Padre served many churches in Canada as Senior Minister before being called to service in 1940 as a Canadian Army Chaplain where he served overseas in World War II and rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel.

After Ester's passing, he married Laura Miller of Vancouver in 1957.

He served as Associate Minister of First Baptist Church, Vancouver[4], was Executive Minister of the Baptist Convention of B.C., spent two years in Union Chapel, Visakhapathnam, India, was Dean of Carey Hall at U.B.C. (1969-71) and was a beloved active member until his last days, at First Baptist Church, Vancouver as Pastor Emeritus. [James served as minister of visitation at First Baptist Church, Vancouver starting in 1971.][5]

Padre loved visiting the sick and needy, giving pastoral assistance and was the life and soul of many a gathering. Padre was predeceased by both his loving wife Laura (1990) and twin brother Jack (July, 2002). We give thanks for Padre's exemplary life and of his dedication and service for his Lord and Master. Family and friends, including his large church family, rejoice in his Homecoming to be with his Lord and Master Jesus Christ. A memorial service of joy for his life will be held at First Baptist Church, Nelson and Burrard, Vancouver, B.C. at 2:30p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2002.[6]
