Biography

Thomas Dunford served in the British Army in World War I

Thomas Cyril Dunford was born at Bournemouth, Hampshire, in 1894. He was the son of Henry James Dunford and Charlotte Wawman.[1][2]
In his youth, Tom attended Whitehorse Road Infants School (1898–1902), Whitehorse Road Boys School (1903), and Whitehorse Manor Road Boys School (1908-09), all in Thornton Heath.[3][4][5]
During the Great War, Thomas held the rank of Private with the Middlesex Regiment. He served in France, and was awarded the Victory, British, and 15 Star medals.[6]
On 20th August 1921, he married Miss Elizabeth Dorothy Terry in Croydon, Surrey. The marriage was solemnized in All Saints Church, Upper Norwood. When they married, Thomas was an engineer by trade, and both Thomas and Dorothy were living at her parents' house in Upper Norwood.[7][8]
In 1928, Thomas obtained a place of employment as postman with the General Post Office.[9] By the 1930s, he was a head postman.[10]
During the 1950s, Tom was a master fruiterer and greengrocer.[11]
On 13th November 1970, Thomas Cyril Dunford died at Mildenhall in Suffolk, aged seventy-six years.[2][12][13]
