Abijah removed, with his parents, from New England to Canada, 1790, first to St. Johns at foot of Lake Champlain, and in 1792 to Montreal, where he is said to have moved in good circles of society, married into a leading family and made important business connections. In 1801, he moved up the Ottawa River to present site of Cumberland, Canada West, where he improved land later moving to Longueuil, Treadwell's Seignory (now Prescott Co. Ont.) - also lived at Van Kleek Hill, Ont. He was a lumberman and developer of transportation on the Ottawa River at Bytown (now Ottawa, Ont., Canada). He retired eventually to East Templeton, Quebec, where he died.
