Biography

Oliver was born in 1766. He passed away in 1839.

Oliver was the son of Silas and Sarah (Whitney) Dutton, who married in Lunenburg, Mass., in 1763. Not long after the family relocated to Ringe, New Hampshire. The history of Rindge says Oliver was baptized there on April 26, 1767. He was listed third in five children. The last children were baptized there in 1771. The family unit left Ringe after that year, and relocated to Grantham, New Hampshire.

Oliver married to Huldah Hopkins in Grantham on October 9, 1791. Records indicate seven children were born there from 1792 to 1812. Oliver's will listed them all by name: Oliver, Daniel, Urial. Lyman, Hannah, Harriet and Rosamond.

Oliver relocated to Hartford, Vermont, where he appeared in the 1820 census.

Oliver's newspaper obituary listed Hartford as his place of death.

Note: Oliver does not appear to have been closely related to Nathaniel Dutton who was in Hartford, Vermont, as early as 1790. Nathaniel's origins were in Connecticut, whereas Oliver's father Silas was born in Massachusetts. The two families were likely related way back in the 1600s in Connecticut.
