Biography

John Ebbott was baptised on 13 February 1752 in St Winwallus Church, Tresmeer, Cornwall, the son of Gregory Ebbott & Dorthay, in Tresmere, Cornwall, England.[1]
As yet I have not been able to find any records for John or his family of origin, other than christenings of his siblings, before his marriage to Wilmot Baker [2], however three years after John's marriage, he owned/leased land in North Tregeare in 1788.[3] which is the first evidence of a lease that mentions his name, the lease is for one year, and is the parish in which he was born.
However the earliest actual record that I have sighted is dated 1810 where Paul Upton Oak is selling the tenement/farm and all its buildings etc to John Ebbott, land which is situated in North Tregare within the Parish of Tresmeer [4]
We also know from John Ebbott's tombstone, in the Tremaine Churchyard, that he must have lived in Westcott for some considerable time as part of tombstone reads “John Ebbott of Westcott in this Parish[5]

"John was a farmer at Westcott farm in Tremaine, parish, just over the hill from the church; his wife Wilmot had inherited Westrcott from her father, John Baker."[6]

He did not sell the land before he died in 1825[7], his widowed wife Wilmot is recorded as selling the “North Tregeare” property in 1827 to her son Philip, the couple's only male heir.

Eighteen years after the couple marry John Baker dies in 1793 leaving his one of his several estates to his daughter

“I give unto my daughter Wilmot Ebbott all my estate in Westcott, after the death of my Executor”[8],

his executor was his wife Margery Baker nee Hambly. Margery continued to live at Westcott at the time of her own death[9] in 1815, according to her gravestone. The estate would then have formerly change hands in 1815, from John Baker via his widow Margery, to their daughter Wilmot Baker , and her husband John Ebbott.

The North Tregeare & Westcott properties are about 2 miles away from each other “North Tregeare” is in Tresmeer and Westcott is in Tremaine, Cornwall.

John Ebbot and Wilmot Baker had only two children after they wed in 1775.[10]
Their first child Philip Upton Ebbet was baptised 1776 in Tresmere, Cornwall.[11] His sister, Elizabeth in 1778 was registered as being baptised on the same day in both the Tresmere and the Egloskerry churches.[12] [13] [14]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
