Biography

George Echerd, the son of James E. Echerd and Valet a Moulton Echerd, was born May 23, 1930, in Herrin, Illinois.

The family soon moved to Belleville, Illinois, where George attended Signal Hill School and graduated from Belleville Township High School. After graduation, he enrolled in Southern Illinois University where he completed his freshman year. In 1949 the family, which now included his beloved younger sister, Margie, moved to Dallas.

George enrolled in S.M.U. where he was an active member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and majored in Business Administration. At S.M. U., he met his future wife, Mary Chatfield, on a blind date. They continued to date and, after graduation, married on July 3, 1953, a union which lasted 63 years. George was sworn into the Army in December, 1952, and was accepted into Officers Candidate School. George trained at Fort Belvoir and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.

He was stationed in Munich, Germany, where he served in the 7th Engineer Corps. Mary accompanied him and they were able to tour much of Europe. Upon their return to the U.S., George accepted a position with Uarco Business Forms, and remained in their employ for 14 years. He attended night classes at S.M.U. and received his M.B.A. in 1958.

In 1963 George and Mary, who were both long time members of Highland Park United Methodist Church, joined the 2 x 2 Class, where they were active members for over 60 years. Many lifelong friendships were formed there. George and Mary's first child, Glynn Steven, was born in December 1958, and he was joined by a brother, Mark Randal, in January, 1960. Their family was completed with the birth of their daughter, Diane Leslie, in 1966. In 1972, George left Uarco and formed his own company, Multiforms Inc., which he owned for over 40 years.

He was very active in the National Business Forms Association and served in several prominent positions, eventually becoming national president. While serving as president of the association, George traveled extensively and was much in demand as speaker at a number of conventions in Canada and the U.S. George and Mary loved to travel and were able to enjoy many trips abroad. They particularly loved cruises, and formed lasting friendships with people they met on board ship.

George is survived by his wife Mary, son Glynn his wife Margaret, their children Robert and Elizabeth; son Mark, his wife Bridget, their children Kyle and Courtney; his daughter Diane Neely her husband Mark Neely, their children Anthony, Brittany, and Andrew Faller.
