John was born October 15, 1898 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was a son of Albert W. Edgecombe.[1][2]
He graduated from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons and the University of Toronto in 1923, and came to Saint John in 1924.[1]
Dr. Edgecombe was elected president of the Saint John Dental society in 1926 and the New Brunswick Dental Society in 1929 and 1930.[1]
He served overseas durnig the Second World War and rose to the rank of Colonel at First Canadian Army Headquarters. He served in Italy in 1943 as assistant director of Dental Services and returned to Britain in 1944 with the same responsibilities.[1]
He received the Order of the British Empire from King George and only Queen's Honorary Dental Surgeon in Canada[1]
In July 1980, he was made an honorary life member of the Canadian Dental Society.[1]
He married Jean Elizabeth Angus on October 15, 1930 in Saint John. She was a daughter of William Angus and Eleanor (McAvity) Angus.[3]
John passed away on January 10, 1990 in Rothesay.[4] He was interred at the Fernhill Cemetery.[1]
