Biography
The Marriage Licence Bond for Samuel Edwards, gentleman of Corsham, Wiltshire, and Martha Mountjoy, spinster of Biddestone, was dated 25 Jan 1748/1749. The Bondsman was William Mountjoy Jr, Attorney of Biddestone.[1] The marriage took place on the same day at Biddestone St Nicholas, Wiltshire.[2]

Samuel died in 1759 intestate. His wife, Martha Ann Mary Edwards, renounced her right to administer his estate in favour of her brother in law, John Edwards of Thickwood in the parish of Colerne, Wiltshire, and her brother, William Mountjoy Jr gent of Biddestone, Wiltshire. Two further bonds were made: one in 1783 to Richard and Elizabeth Gale, Elizabeth being the daughter of Samuel Edwards; and the other in 1786 to John Edwards of Corsham, Yeoman, son of Samuel Edwards.[4]
