Mary Ann EDWARDS was the youngest daughter of W. G. EDWARDS of Goulburn, NSW. She was born before 1840. She had at least one older sibling, Emma (EDWARDS) CARVETH, who married Lawrence CARVETH in Goulburn, in 1860.[1]
MARRIAGE: At Goulburn, on the 15th inst [15 February 1859], by W. Chatfield, Esq., GEORGE MARTIN (George Martin LONG), only son of Mr. George Long, of Sydney, to MARY ANN, youngest daughter of Mr. W. G. Edwards, of Goulburn.[2]
Presumed DEATH: NSW - LONG, MARY A; 4634/1881; AGE 49 YEARS; DIED GOULBURN; GOULBURN [=born abt 1832]
Presumed death of FATHER: EDWARDS, WILLIAM G; 4054/1868; AGE 68; YEARS; DIED GOULBURN; GOULBURN
I am convinced that the two daughters of W. G. Edwards, married in Goulburn, are siblings.
The problems are in correctly identifying their births, deaths, and parents:
Emma (EDWARDS) CARVETH died as "Emily CARVETH" in Forbes in 1863, aged 25,[3] she was born in about 1838; her parents were named as William EDWARDS and Sophia ANLEZARK on her death registration.[4] Her marriage describes her as “oldest daughter”.
If Mary Ann LONG died in Goulburn in 1881, aged 49 years, she was born about 1832…… BUT her marriage describes her as “youngest daughter”. That death gives no parents’ names.
Therefore, Mary Ann's presumed deaths is not correctly attributed - with “youngest" daughter born 1832, and “oldest" in 1838.
THEN there is a problem with the two siblings named Mary Ann.
Mary Ann Edwards (abt.1841-1894) at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Edwards-20054; she married Mortimer John Francis KELKY in 1861. According to the newspapers she died in 1894. However, none of the NSW BMD deaths for that year, nor 1895, give parents William or Sophia for a Mary KELLY. As she died in Sydney, one presumes her death is: KELLY, MARY; 9628/1894; PARENTS JOHN & UNKNOWN; NEWTOWN? Surely, as she appears to have died in hospital the death was registered?
IF that is correct, she is wrongly assigned to the family of William and Sophia.
BUT the Mary Ann of this profile married George Martin LONG in 1859. IF her presumed death is correct, she cannot be the child of William and Sophia, as their Mary Ann was born “about 1841”; but the presumed death for THIS Mary Ann gives birth about 1832.....
