John Egerton, was born in 1579, the 2nd but only surviving son of Thomas Egerton, Baron of Ellesmere, later 1st Viscount Brackley, and his first wife, Elizabeth Ravenscroft. He succeeded his father as 2nd Viscount Brackley and Baron of Ellesmere 15 March 1616/17.
He was created 1st Earl of Bridgwater (or Bridgewater) on 27 May 1617, which rank had apparently been promised to his father.[1]
