Born on 17 February 1879 at Walton, Berkshire, on 20 May 1903 he qualified MRCVS (New Edinburgh) and thereafter on 14 May 1904 he joined the Cape Civil Veterinary Department . In 1908 he was stationed at Oudtshoorn. However, he did not remain in the service, but went farming in the Oudtshoorn district where he married Magdalena Johanna Olivier (daughter of Gert Cornelis Olivier - member of Parliament) in 1905.
In World War I he joined the Military Veterinary Service
In South Africa and saw service in the S.W.A. and East Africa Campaign.
After the war he returned to farming. He died on 14 April 1941 at Oudtshoorn.
As a student at the New Edinburgh Veterinary College he won the following academic medals: 1902 Gen. Pathology and Pathological Anatomy , 1902 Materia Medica, 1902 Hygiene, 1903 Veterinary Surgery [1]
