Biography

This profile is part of the Ellis Name Study.

Samuel, son of Mordecai and Sarah (birth surname unknown) Ellis, was born at Sandwich in the Massachusetts Bay Colony ca 1696. He married Mercy Gibbs in about 1717 and they had seven children whose births were recorded at Plymouth.[1]

Probate

His will is dated 27 January 1745/46 and proved on 6 March 1745/56 in Plymouth. He mentions his children, Mary, Esther, Jane, Rebecca, Mercy, and Samuel. He bequeaths the continued enslavement of his Indian boy (not named) to his son Samuel.[2]

His inventory was taken on 23 May 1746 in Plymouth.[3]
