John Joseph, son of John P Elzer and Mary Lentz Elzer, was born on April 20, 1910, in Saint Clair, Allegheny, Pennsylvania.^[1]

In the 1920 census, Joseph (age 9) was living with his widowed mother Mary in the household of his maternal grandparents John and Mary Lentz in Saint Clair, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. ^[2]

In the 1930 census, Joseph (age 20, Electrician in a Steel Mill) was the single son of Mary A. Elzer in Pittsburgh (Districts 251-488), Allegheny, Pennsylvania.^[3]

Between the 1930 and 1940 censuses, Joseph married Mildred Bromley. Based on the age of their oldest child, they were probably married around 1934. No marriage record has been found to date.
