Edith was born on December 22nd, 1920. She was the daughter of Willis Epperson who was 30 and her mother, Mae Nicholson was 27. She was the 4th child and the first of three girls.
The family had a significant change in dynamics in the 1920s. The Census was conducted on April 3rd, 1930. They had 3 girls born into the family: Edith, Betty and Doris. They have moved to 1905 Freeman Ave. where they're renting a large building for $60.00 a month and her mother is managing a boarding house. They have 6 lodgers ranging in age from 72 to 19, from the southeastern United States. Edith was 9 and enrolled in school, she is able to read and write. [1]
Edith was one of 192 students to graduate from Lafayette Bloom Junior High School in June 1936. [1]
Edith had a very busy summer in 1939. She, her brother and some cousins visited several Kentucky attractions and events in July that year with her uncle Homer Nichols. [2] [3]
1940 was a huge year of transition for the Epperson family and Edith in particularly. She was recorded in Owen County, Kentucky on April 10th, living with her brothers, Harold and Carl. She is a graduate of high school. [2] On April 18th she was living with her parents at 1011 Findlay St, Cincinnati, Ohio. She worked 46 hours in the previous week, her occupation is "new worker". The industry she was working in was not recorded. [3]
Edith and Garland Ray Ireland were married in Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky on the 8th of March 1941. They were married by E.H.Barnett, a Methodist minister. The witnesses were John and Justine Baumstork. Both, Edith and Garland said they were 21 years old. Garland was employed as a factory laborer. He was born in Owen County, Kentucky and listed his residence as New Columbus, Kentucky, as did Edith. [4]
She filed suit for divorce in September 1944 asking for child support and alimony. [4]
Edith and Charles secured their marriage license in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky which is just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, Ohio on June 10th, 1946. The service information isn't completed, and it was rubber stamped with something like "returned, find in file order." Charles is working as a foreman for someone, probably the chemical plant he is working for when the 1950 Census was conducted. [5]
April 10th, 1950 found Edith living at 2955 Montana Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio with her 2nd husband, Charles Wentzel, her two daughters and her oldest brother, Edward. Edith is taking care of the home. [5] [6]
Edith and Charles purchased a 10 room, two family house located at 2355 Vera Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio. [6] [7]
Her father passed away in March 1959. [7] [8]
Her brother, Carl passed away tragically from an automobile/pedestrian accident in March 1964. [9] [10] [11] [12]
Her brother Harold passed away in May 1968. [13] and her oldest brother, Edward passed in May of 1984. [14]
Her Mother, May Epperson passed away in January 1990 at the age of 96. [15] [16]
Charles would pass away the next June. [17]
