Gillie Gilbert was born on the 22nd of June 1925, the elder son of Gilbert Erwin and Nellie Galliher in Etowah County, Alabama. He spent his whole life in Etowah County apart from serving in the Army in World War II.
Gillie served in the United States Army from the 17th of September 1943 when he was called up at Fort McClellan, Calhoun County, Alabama, until the 31st of December 1945.
Gillie married Dorothy Byers in Etowah County, Alabama on the 18th of October 1952 and together they had a son, Michael Byers Erwin.
Gillie passed away on the 6th of July 2009 in Gadsden and was buried at Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama on the 8th of July.
