Henry Etheridge was born in 1757, in Virginia and was residing in the Ninety Six District of South Carolina at the time of the American Revolutionary War, where he served as a Sergeant in the Militia. [1]
Henry Etheridge is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A037341. DAR records indicate that Henry died in 1840, in the Edgefield District of South Carolina and that he was twice married. The name of his first wife is not given, and the name of his second wife is "Jimima" Whaley. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his daughters Jimimia [sic] Etheridge, who married Handcock Suddath; and Sally Newton Etheridge, who married Nathaniel Corley; and of his son, Benjamin Etheridge, who married Elizabeth Jennings. [2]
Henry's Find A Grave memorial gives the name of other wife as Sarah Burdett and states that in his elder years Henry was most likely living with daughter Jemima Etheredge Suddath. Henry is buried in the Merchant Suddath Cemetery, in Saluda, Saluda county, South Carolina. There is additional biographical information on his F.A.G. memorial, and a photograph of his headstone. [3]
