Biography

"Both Mr. and Mrs. Evan came to Wisconsin in their childhood and grew to maturity and married in Iowa county. Mr. Evans was a farmer from his youth, and upon his arrival in Wisconsin, purchased a fertile tract of farm land in the vicinity of Ridgeway. Here Mrs. Morris (Miss Margaret Evans, of Ridgeway) was born, March 26, 1855. Mr. Evans became prominent in Ridgeway and held several local offices, among them that of town clerk and that of county recorder. The former office he held fifteen ears and was urged to continue longer in office. He was well educated and possessed unusual clerical ability. A great deal of this time he employed in reading and study. He enlisted as a private in the Eighteenth Wisconsin infantry and served in the field two years. He was mustered out and honorably discharged from the service at the close of the war. Mr. Evans was taken with illness early in 1893 and past away in March of that year. Mrs. Evans lived until May, 1907. They were parents of twelve children: Thomas, a farmer, of the town of Brigham; Oliver C., also the owner of a farm in Brigham; Margaret, Mrs. John J. Morris; Mary, who lives in Brigham; John, also of Brigham; James (deceased); James a farmer, of Brigham; Louise, who lives at the old hoe in Brigha; D.J. a practicing physician and surgeon, of Los Angeles, Cal; Ruth, who resides in Barneveld; Sadie, who resides with her sister, Ruth. The family are most loyal to the friends and surroundings of their youth and consider themselves remarkably fortunate to have been able to remain, with the one exception, within such a short distance of one another. Mr. and Mrs. Morris have three children, one child having died in infancy: Hannah, the oldest, was born April 6, 1888; Lulu was born June 9, 1891; David B. was born May 15, 1893. The young people still reside at the parental home. Mr. and Mrs. Morris are consistent and faithful members of the Congregational church, in which belief they have educated their children."
