Mary was born in 1896, the only child of James Eyley and Mary Hyde.[1][2]
The 1901 census has Mary aged 4 living at 54 Nelson Street, Burton-on-Trent.[3]
The 1911 Census form for Mary Eley is signed by James Eyley although his name is listed as Eley. Mary is aged 14 and living at 62 Charles Street, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.[4]
Mary gave birth to her first daughter, Elsie, in 1913.
In 1916, she married Elsie's father, James William Massey.[5]
The children of John and Mary Eaglefield were Mabel, Hilda, Phyllis, Nancy and Reginald.[8]
In 1939 she was living in Wallway Cottages, Linton? (The form heading states Repton, but other listings on the page are at Linton Heath.) The other household members were her husband, John, who was incapacitated, daughters Mabel (later Clague) and Hilda (later Huckerby) both of whom were shop assistants, son Reginald, and her father James, an old age pensioner previously a coal hewer.[9]
She passed away in Derby between Jan-Mar 1984.[10]
