(533) Aaron C. Fagin (1844-1938) 3rd son of George W. Fagin / Julia Hahn, b. Clermont County, Ohio, 1844. Veteran of Civil War, Enlisted in 39th Ohio Infantry, Company E, and re-enlisted in 1864 at Chattanooga. His brother Samuel T. Fagin was NCO in same Company, which was in action in Tennessee, and in Sherman Georgia Campaign. After the war moved to Lathrop, Missouri and operated a hotel before 1880. Was in real estate business in Oklahoma City from about 1885 to his death in 1938. His wife was Margaretta Wells (1844-1920?) a native of Illinois. Both are buried in Oklahoma City. Children: (5331) Stephen D., 1882; Laura B., 1878. Daughter Laura B. Fagin (1878-1963) married Charles Leonard West, owner of Oklahoma City Marble and Granite Company. She died in 1963. No children.

Note: Aaron's date of death was incorrectly given as 1936 in Descendants of Patrick Fagin. His actual date of death was April 27, 1938; this is confirmed by multiple sources including family papers, the program provided at his memorial service, and an obituary published in the Lathrop Optimist (see below). Also, his wife signed their marriage certificate as Margaret (not Margaretta).

Uncle Aaron Fagin Passed on April 27; Was Past 93

Uncle Aaron Fagin, an old timer of Lathrop, and a Civil War veteran, passed away in Oklahoma City, Okla. last week. His life reaching nearly a century came to a close on Wednesday, April 27, 1938.

The funeral service was held Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Hahn Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, interment in Mausoleum Fairlawn Cemetery, Oklahoma City.

He had always enjoyed good health until a few weeks ago when he complained of a stomach and bowel trouble. He was sick just two nights and a day. He was down town on Monday, visited with friends and walked around the block. That afternoon he went to see another friend, a block away from his home and spent an hour and a half with him. He was stricken Monday night at 9:30 and passed away Wednesday at 10 a.m. The suddenness of his passing was unexpected.

Uncle Aaron Fagin was born August 5, 1884, at Mt. Carmel, Ohio, twelve miles from Cincinnati, departed this life April 27, 1938 at his home in Oklahoma City, aged 93 years, 8 months and 22 days. He was converted and joined the Methodist church when he was 18 years old and was a faithful Christian all his life.

He enlisted in the Union Army in Company E, 39th Ohio volunteers at Cincinnati, Ohio on January 26, 1864, went down the Ohio River to Nashville and Prospect, Tenn., started on his march here, went through Tennessee, Atlanta, and Georgia on to Savannah, crossed over into South Carolina, went...

Note: I've transcribed the text above from an old photocopy of an older newspaper article; unfortunately there was no second scan including the remainder. If anyone has access to the Lathrop Optimist archives, I would very much appreciate their assistance in recovering the remainder. - George Fagin
