Ann Fairall was born on 21st April 1821 at Icklesham, Sussex, England, to William Fairall and Hannah Weller, who had married just the year before Anne's birth.
Ann migrated to the Colony of New South Wales with her parents and siblings, departing London on 20th October 1838 aboard the Juliana, which ran aground at the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa on 19th January. The voyage was completed aboard the Morayshire, arriving Sydney on 3rd April 1839. None of the family appear on the daily sick lists for the voyage.[1].
The Fairall family settled on property at Razorback via Picton in New South Wales.
In 1841, Ann married John Bunt, a conditionally-pardoned convict who arrived in the colony in 1834.[2] They made their home at Sutton Forest in the New South Wales Southern Highlands, not too far from Ann's family, and raised a family of thirteen children (only one of whom failed to survive early childhood):
John worked as a farm labourer in Sutton Forest. After John passed away in 1866, Ann remained a widow, devoted to her family which still included toddler children. She was provided for by her older sons and cared for by her older daughters. Her children produced 102 grandchildren and more than 300 great grandchildren.
Ann passed away on 11th November 1905 at Sutton Forest, aged 84 years, and is buried with her husband in All Saints churchyard, nearby.[3]
