Research Notes
The Pribislaw/Pribislav is an elusive and poorly documented vessel. Its arrival at Adelaide can be found on Trove, but not at Melbourne and it does not come up on PROV. Its Melbourne details rely on South Australian entries. A current internet source for Melbourne passengers is:
Under the command of captain P W Niemann the Pribislaw departed Hamburg on 23 August 1849 arrived at Rio de Janiro 27 October 1849 and stayed there until 2 December. The ship berthed in Port Phillip (Melbourne) on 2 February 1850 where most of the passengers disembarked. The Pribislaw went on to Port Adelaide arriving there on 1 March 1850.
The Pribislaw left Hamburg with 229 passengers (168 adults and 61 children). There were 14 deaths on the voyage. 19 passengers went to Adelaide. Many of the passengers settled initially in Westgarthtown, Victoria.
