Biography

This Theophilus Farrington was born 7 February 1759, the sixth child of Theophilus Farrington and Sarah Breed. He was a namesake for his earlier born (1754) brother who died in infancy. Both brothers are listed in the same church records of their birth family. [1]


American Revolutionary War service: The following appears in the caption of his online memorial site:

Cap­tain Newhall's company, list dated Fort Lee, November 16, 1776, of men taken from the Orderly Book of Colonel Israel Hutchinson of the 27th regiment reported as taken prisoner at Fort Washington, November 16, 1776; also descriptive list of men raised to reinforce the Continental Army for the term of six months, agreeable to a resolve of June 5, 1780, returned as received of Justin Ely, commissioner, by Brigadier-General John Glover, at Springfield, July 13, 1780; aged twenty-two years; stature, 6 ft.; complexion, ruddy; engaged for town of Lynn; marched to camp July 13, 1780, under command of Captain Thomas Pritchard.

On 19 February 1786 at Lynn, Massachusetts, Theophilus Farrington and Susanna (Newhall) Farrington (1760-1818) posted their intent to marry. [2] They did marry on 16 May 1786. [3][4] There may have been three children of this union, variably well documented:

  1. Joseph Farrington (1787 - 1811)
  2. Susanna Farrington (19 Jan 1793 - 31 Oct 1852); unmarried
  3. Isabel Farrington (30 Dec 1799 - )

Theophilus Farrington passed away 12 September 1812. His grave is in Western Burial Ground, Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA [5].
