EASTPORT, NEWPORT and PITTSFIELD - Ada Blanche Hickey, 99, beloved wife of the late Carroll A. Hickey, passed away Oct. 4, 2010, at a Pittsfield health care facility. She was born May 23, 1911, in Eastport, a daughter of D. Archibald and Etta M. (Quigley) Fiander. She graduated from Shead Memorial High School, Class of 1929. She and her husband, Carroll, owned Hickey's Shoe Store until it burned in 1962. They later owned and operated the Mad Injun which later was called the Puffin Pig Gift Shop, Whiting. Ada was a lifelong member of Pythian Sisters. She was a trustee of Bangor Savings Bank and Eastport Memorial Nursing Home, trustee and treasurer of Blakley Memorial United Methodist Church, and treasurer and a volunteer for Meals for ME, Eastport. She is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Turner of Newport; granddaughter, Susan C. Villetta; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Nicholas, Chandler and Griffin Villetta, all of Portland; a son, William and wife, Santa Hickey, of Taneytown, Md.; granddaughters, Carol and husband, William Phipps, of Annapolis, Md., and Jacqueline and husband, Raymond Miller; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Haley Miller, all of Littlestown, Pa.; granddaughter, Karen and husband, Kenneth Wilkinson, of Upperco, Md.; granddaughter, Kimberly and husband, Daniel Alvater; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Alvater, all of Taneytown, Md.; nephews, Donald and Robert Vose and Robert Fiander. She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll, in 1975; her brother and his wife, William and Evelyn Fiander of Baltimore; her best friend and sister, Verna (Fiander) Vose, who passed 10 days before Ada, also at Sebasticook Valley Health Care Facility; and Verna's husband, Ralph Vose, in 1975. Graveside services will be held in the family lot at Hillside Cemetery, Eastport. (Bangor Daily News 10/7/2010)
